NOTE:  This is a full-time position that pays $17/Hour.  This position is scheduled to work Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.

Job Summary

Supervises, plans, schedules, and assign the work of all transportation personnel; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion ensures accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides salary and hiring/firing recommendations. Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the telephone room; ensures that all calls are responded to in a timely, friendly, and professional manner; ensures that pickup tickets are completed, and information provided is in compliance with established policies and procedures. Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the pickup personnel; conducts driving tests for new applicants; conducts regular driver and safety meetings; ensures that all Truck Drivers and Truck Helpers work routes in a timely and professional manner and in compliance with all established policies and procedures as well as safety and production standards. Supervises the unloading and distribution of all donated items; ensures that donated items are properly distributed and stored; determines items to be taken to the dump and coordinates the same.

 

Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of the automated pickup system ensuring that all pickup tickets are processed in a timely and successful manner; generates, evaluates, circulates, and files a variety transportation reports; modifies and performs backups of the automated system to maintain the integrity, timeliness, and security of the data. Monitors and reviews Truck Drivers compliance with scheduled routes and ensures that donations collected arrive as scheduled; conducts radio checks with all drivers to ensure they are on their route as scheduled; ensures that all fleet staff performed work in accordance with established policies, procedures, and safety standards. Plans, prioritizes, schedules, and coordinates all route assignments to ensure effective and efficient fleet operations; confers radio check with all truck drivers to ensure they are on their route as scheduled; ensures that all fleet staff perform work in accordance with established policies, procedures, and safety standards. Conducts driver meetings regularly to discuss safety and production and to resolve operational problems.

 

Supervises the cleaning and maintenance of the warehouse and loading dock area. Supervises and performs routine mechanical repairs or preventative maintenance work on trucks.  Coordinates and monitors the maintenance and repair work for all vehicles ensuring the long life of all vehicles. Oversees and responds to donor complaints in a timely, friendly, and professional manner; contacts donors requiring non-routine pickups and schedules pickups accordingly. Prepares and maintains up-to-date personnel records and reports i.e. driver bonus, employee timecards, work schedules and absentee tracking.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of assigned geographical area. Ability to organize pick-up tickets and to schedule route in a manner that saves time and fuel.  Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of personalities. Ability to successfully supervise, evaluate and discipline employees.

 

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required and four years of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van, one year of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of Transportation Supervisor.

 

Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License, Valid Commercial Driver’s License Preferred but not required.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions. Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck. Ability to successfully interact with a variety of personalities, to include, but not limited to, co-workers, management staff and beneficiaries. Moderate amount of strenuous physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects (over 50 lbs.) up to 40% of work time.

 

Work may require driving a vehicle or working in the warehouse with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with heavy traffic or changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like. Work is also performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
